School is almost out and Summer Fun is Here!

School in some areas is already out and for my daughter, it will be completed this Friday.  I know the students and teachers are happy about having a much needed vacation.  I have truly enjoyed spending the days with my precious twin grandbabies this year, and the others when they needed to come have some Granny time.  I know I will miss being with the babies everyday (and may end up over here some each day), but I am also looking forward to being able to get caught up on my projects and orders.  I have some monogramming and appliquing to get done for the twins summer clothes, plus still working on some of the shorts sets for Hayden for his Disney trip.  I have to finish those in the next day or two.  Then I am going on vacation with my daughter, her husband and children to the beach- I guess you could say I am the "Nannie" to help take care of the twins.  Once back from there, I will be working most days creating cute outfits and gifts.  I plan on having a supply of generic baby gifts ready for last minute shoppers for both boys and girls.

Here are a few of the things I have done recently, some for Hayden and some for customers.  I also made the monkey outfit for Hayden to match a smocked outfit that Natalie has.  Didn't get a good picture of them both in their outfits, they wore them to Logan's Kindergarten Graduation.  Granny is so proud of him, he received the Highest Math Award and the Superindents Honor Roll Award.  I can't believe he is already to go to 1st Grade.

Summer Fun

What a cute way to keep up with your children's towels this summer!  These towels were personalized with appliqued designs and the child's name.  No more getting towels mixed up.  I used regular bath size towels for this project.  The font I used for these towels is Kristen TTF font, that my layout and editing program converted to a digitalized design.  It stitched out great, the letters are think all the way to the end, keeping them from fading into the pile of the towel.   I used a water soluble stabilizer on tip of the towels to hold the stitches on top of the pile of the towels, it helps the letter stitch out smooth.  These make great gifts for birthdays!  For these towels, I used the alligator, boy turtle and girl turtle designs from Lynnie Pinnie, and the butterfly design is from Sew Many Designs Monkeys and More CD.

Birthday Hats to Coordinate with personalized Birthday Shirts/Onsies

I have gotten to make a couple personalized Birthday Hats recently and they are so much fun.  I have another one to make this weekend.  I like being able to make the hats to coorinate with the birthday colors or theme, and a shirt for the birthday boy or girl to wear.

I took a cardboard birthday hat that I purchased in a package and used it as a guide to make my pattern.  I added heigth to it, to allow more space for the monogrammed large chunky number.  I used a thick stabilizer for the inside of the hat.  The cut my material for the outside of the hat about 1/2 inch larger than the stabilizer to allow material to fold to the back side, so the edges would be finished.  On the girls version, it is not necessary to add material to the bottom edge, if you are going to use the feather boa ( it would hide the raw edge).  I folded the material around and stitched around all edges of the stabilizer to secure the material.  Then I folded the hat and figured out where I wanted my number design to go, and marked it.  I used a fast hoop, and sticky stabilizer, so I stuck my hat on, and stitched the design onto the hat.  Now, fold the hat around and pin it where it should be secured.  I use my sewing machine and start at the bottom of the back, with the two edges overlapped slightly and sewed up as far as my machine will go into the cone.  I used a hot glue gun to glue the rest of the edge together.  Fold the hat flat and figure out where you want your elastic or ribbon to be placed, then stitch it in place.  For the girls version, apply got glue around the bottom edge and press the feather boa into place, starting at the center back and finish at the center back.  Apply hot glue to the top edge, and wrap a small piece of the feather boa around it and press into the hot glue to secure it, like a pompom.    Remember to place the hat in your keepsake box after the special occasion.

Chocolate Bunny Shirt

What a cute way to dress for Easter Fun!  This darling little shirt is a plan Garanimals Shirt, with a Minky Fabric Chocolate Easter Bunny appliqued on it, and the name is the Garton Font from Jolsons Designs.  Can't wait to see my sweet grandson in it.

Creating Designer Boys Shirts from basic two button knit shirts

It is so much fun to take inexpensive store purchased basics and turn them into designer children's cloths.  I purchased basic knit polo style shirts at a department store and monogrammed on them.  The end result is great.  I used the Garton Monogram Font from Jolson's Designs for the white shirt and for the navy shirt, I used a tractor design from Embroidery RN's collection and used Agency Font.  It was so simple to do this project.  I actually did shirts for both my older grandsons yesterday.

Fancy Panties to wear with Tutu

These turned out soooo cute. Aren't they just the cutest things. I made these to match the 2 year old onsie set, to be worn under the tutu. Will post a picture of Emma wearing them soon.

Baby Gifts-Everyone loves Personalized Gifts

I absolutely love making personalized baby gifts, and everyone I know loves receiving them. These are a few items that I have recently made. Burp clothes and bibs are so useful and appreciated.

A small diaper bag for use on short outings is also a great idea. I used the Cara Bag Pattern, which has been made available upon request from Cara at http://www.sewforum.com/ for the beautiful diaper bag. It is great, it gives you the ability to use themes, that are of interest to the parents.

Birthday Onsie and Bib

Look at this cute way to continue the theme of a birthday party into the clothes that the birthday girl wears. Personalized onsies or t-shirts work great. This onsie was personalized to wear with a tutu. I made a matching bib, and later personalized a pair of bloomers. You can incorporate any birthday theme. This one is for a ladybug party.

Welcome to my Blog

This is all new to me, but I am very excited about sharing my interest in sewing and monogramming for children. I am a grandmother to 5 wonderful children, a 7 year old GD, 6 year old GS, 3 year old GS, and 5 month old twins-a boy and a girl. I have been sewing and monogramming clothes for children for 3 years now. I love seeing the finished garments being enjoyed. I also love making gifts for babies. During the holiday season, I made Christmas Stockings and personalized them.

I hope to be able to find and share free machine embroidery designs here and any other tips I find that I think will be useful. This will be a work in progress. Please come back often to see what is new.
